Is your office space so crammed that you have a hard time being productive?
REMOVE ITEMS THAT DON’T BELONG. Some offices, and especially home offices, become dumping grounds for items without a home. Find a logical home for them and clear them out.
KEEP ORNAMENTS TO A MINIMUM AND HANG PICTURES when ever possible. You'll be needing your desk surface and shelves, so keep them clear.
SORT AND STORE "LIKE" ITEMS TOGETHER. Allocate spaces for office supplies, books, etc. Keep binders, and pamphlets behind closed doors, unless they look uniform in an open space.
HAVE ITEMS USED MOST OFTEN, CLOSE AT HAND. Drawer space is great for a "few" pens, pencils and markers, the stapler, tape, calculator, etc. Keep extra office supplies in the office supply area.
ALLOCATE AN ACTION AREA for paper going "in" and "out" of your office, as well as a space for "to do" tasks.
DIVIDE FILING INTO CATEGORIES, like yearly versus static, or personal versus business. Keep the most used files close by, possibly in hanging folders for easy access. Static information can be kept neat in a binder. Yearly files can be boxed up at the end of the year for quick access when needed, and to make room for the current year.
GIVE YOURSELF A CLUTTER FREE WORK SURFACE, with space on both sides of your computer.
Now sit back and enjoy!
